The retaining spring's work is to hold the brake caliper in position. This prevents impermissible movements between the brake caliper and the brake caliper mount, while at the same time ensuring that the brake pad is positioned correctly.
Brake Return springs return the brake shoes to their resting condition after you release the brake pedal .
